Living just down the street from Watts Montessori Elementary School, The Heery family resides in the heart of the community that Watts fosters. My story focuses on the two youngest daughters, Alice and Hazel, and their daily journey circulating around family, friendship, school, and the little things that make life fun. The girls have an incredible support system from their parents Chris and Kristin and older sister Lucy, who all play different but equally important roles in their lives. Just like the people around them, the Heery's are a navigating life as it comes but make sure to take it one day at a time. I would like to extend my gratitude to the Heery family for their generosity and for letting me into their lives. One moment that will live with me forever is spending Halloween with them. Seeing the streets filled with families dressed up in all different costumes, the candy dropped into buckets, and knowing that core memories were in the making made me feel completely present. I spent a lot of time that day thinking about my childhood and how time has flown by since I started grade school and all of the Halloweens that have passed. Trying to rush through each day, always looking towards the next big thing often makes me forget to stop and enjoy the little things. I have watched the Heery girls enjoy the little things, and for that I am blessed.
